About the owners
Michael and Jennifer Kilp have owned and operated the business since 1999. Their energy and enthusiasm has seen the business expand and diversify to the extent that it is now a thriving business. Aquafun employs a number of local youth as well as attracts considerable tourists to the area. It supports the sociocultural and economic development of the township and region.
Environmental and social commitment – Accreditation
Michael and Jennifer are passionate about the local community and support a number of environmental and humanitarian causes.
Michael is a Community representative on Central Coast Council’s Coast and Catchment Committee. He is a kayak instructor qualified in Outdoor Recreation Management and enjoys sharing his knowledge about kayaking and the lake to interested people and groups.
Jennifer has a Bachelor of Social Science degree majoring in Leisure and Tourism Management.
Aquafun has been externally accredited through Ecotourism Australia, gaining Advanced Ecotourism status. Aquafun aims to educate through minimal impact practices and Leave No Trace principles.
Aquafun actively participates in a number of environmental programs in conjunction with local environmental groups. Each year Aquafun hosts and provides kayaks and pedalboats free for Clean Up Australia Day.
The Ecotourism Certification program assures travellers that certified products are backed by a strong, well managed commitment to sustainable practices and provides high quality nature-based tourism experiences. For more information on ecotourism accreditation go to Ecotourism Australia website.

About Avoca Lake
This large coastal lagoon, right in the heart of Avoca Beach, is relatively untouched by development. The star shaped lagoon with a large island at its centre offers many creeks, passages, inlets and wide expanses to explore. This ecologically significant and picturesque wetland area is home to pelicans, herons, cormorants, many other birds and wildlife. Avoca Lagoon wetland is also home to an endangered Green & Golden Bell Frog colony, diverse and rare flora and its abundant fish stocks afford excellent fishing opportunities.
